Want to make sure this is out there. I didn't see it -- and Webb has been keeping largely out of sight when it comes to healthcare reform and hasn't said much abt "the public option".
Sen Jim Webb, D-VA, told a group of activists Thurs that he only committed to Sen Reid that he would vote to allow debate to start on a healthcare bill (which could happen by the end of this coming week). He did NOT rule out supporting a filibuster in the end.
"I just said to him I will vote to proceed to debate, but I think everyone should see that bill before we start debating it. Not to do so is foolish," Webb said, in that it gives "ammo" to extremists. Webb also noted that he was one of 8 sens asking this very thing of Reid in a letter.
Webb told those gathered that in terms of a public option, essentially, if you impose a mandate, "there has to be competition" --- BUT he seems undecided, even uncomfortable, with the "public option" - despite somewhat embracing it (and opposing coops), saying:
"If it came down to a public option as opposed to, say, nonprofit insurance programs or those sorts of things, I would support a public option. But again, we have to see how these issues end the day."

The fact remains that big insurance by refusing care to patients and reimbursement to doctors over typos has ticked everyone off. They have a monopoly over the whole process and a well financed lobby team (including Lieberman's wife) and representatives on both sides of the isle.
A friend of mine recently laid off just he and his spouse is paying $2,500.00 dollars a month for his COBRA. Health insurance costs more than his mortgage. Anyone taking up the insurance industry's cause doesn't know what they are talking about.
If you think the insurance companies are going to voluntarily lower their cost while having a monopoly over the process – you are being disingenuous …Over 60% of all US bankruptcies are attributable to medical problems. The insurance companies and their representatives in Congress would love to perpetuate a business model that is crippling our overall economy – a bunch of great Americans aren’t they?
90% of the wealth concentrated in 1% of the population is no way to run a country but a heck of a way to establish a royalty ruling class. Yacht sales can not sustain 350 million people. I'm for the public option, competition and a level playing field or break up the big insurers like we did AT&T.
A slavish focus on profit margin might be good for the individual or a business, but it is one helluva lousy way to "govern" a Country. The GOP being a wholly owned subsidiary of Corporate America has a hard time with that concept.

BECAUSE,..in effect they IMPOSED a FINE in the form of higher taxes on mostly the poor, Who smoked cigarettes, that tax affected only that one small group of our Citizens, smokers. We used to call that what it was,..DISCRIMINATION. But in effect, our government has been ROBBING THEM, THIS GROUP WERE INDEED MOSTLY THE POOR, as are the majority of the OBESE OUR GOVERNMENT INTENDS AS THEIR NEXT VICTIMS TO ROB.
If you agree with the kind of Government IMPOSED FINE/TAX policy's under Clinton, WHO DO YOU BELIEVE Could BE NEXT ON THEIR LIST? I mean they do intend and will now YES, ISOLATE,.. the Obese among us, who are also, mostly members of the poor in America, in the same manner as they did smokers, whatever they call it,..TAX OR A FINE,..what or better still WHO,...among our citizens could be our governments next victims?

Someone explain how GREAT the Obama BAIL OUTS are? I keep hearing they worked so well. Yet, we do have 10.2 5 Unemployment. Correct? I mean we have GM,..Chrysler still down, while Ford, who refused to take the Obama bail out because they refused the government controls, are now making a profit. How could this be? Ford was in sad shape, they went to work, got some concessions. However they did not have to follow the Obama plan that cuts out a big piece of the earnings Pie for the UNIONS,...so they made money. They are not saddled with the Obama regulations although I am sure Obama has people working on that right now, in efforts to find other ways they can gain CONTROL of FORD also. So, Why is it GM and Chrysler are STILL in the RED while FORD is making money, GM and Ford had about the same amount of debt before Ford restructured, Gm went with the Obama plans that ENDED in Bankruptcy even after the OBAMA BAIL OUTS. Ford simply restructured and got concessions from their employees. What accounts for the Differences, FORD making a Profit for the first time in YEARS,..while the Bail Out Twins are still suffering under the Obama Bail Out Terms? Can anyone explain this?
