What role - in your opinion - does obesity play with health care? Are obese people discriminated against? Are obese people irresponsible? Is obesity a problem that we should adress or not? Why are people obese ? (genetics, fast food, just eat too much?) Is obesity in this country a problem or not? and is it a problem for nation or just the individual?
I don't believe you can pinpoint obesity on any ONE reason, anymore that you can pinpoint being UNDERweight on any ONE reason. Truth be known, overweight people are sometimes more healthy than underweight people, so why discriminate against obese people just because someone of "normal" weight doesn't see the truth.
Pelosi's Horror Show showed up just in time for Halloween. What an abomination of dishonesty and power grabbing. This monstrosity is an obscenity, and only a dedicated, parasitic, government tit sucker, and fool, would want the country to get saddled with this poorly disguised tax bill.
This pile of Pelosi poop will kill more jobs, further damage small businesses, run health insurers out of business, and very likely bankrupt the nation.
The CBO has this ridiculous excuse for a "health plan" at over 1 trillion dollars and you can multiply that figure by at least 10.
Every government program is estimated WAY below what they end up actually costing. We can't afford this NOOSE AROUND OUR NECKS, even if the CBO is accurate, which they aren't.
The real cost of this will break this country's financial back, all because we are allowing Obama to stonewall on tort reform, health savings accounts, removing state's restrictions on where we can buy insurance, etc.
This bill, and all of the plans introduced by the Lying liberals, are nothing less than a means to gain stifling control of our lives, and nothing more than a Marxist method for imposing intentionally crippling taxes that will put the knife in the back of capitalism.
I just wanted you to know that today I talked to Congresswoman Marsha Blackburns/Tanner(D. TN)/and several other Democrat Congressmen from Tennessee/Senators Corker and Alexanders office in DC and I was floored, they actually listened.
I explained to them that even if they pass this dangerous piece of legislation it would be ever more expensive because of the future lawsuits. I asked Congressman Tanner (D. TN) one question and the Democrats couldn't answer this simple question, "Where in the Constitution does it give them the authority to create commerce [it doesn't]. This bill violates Article 1 section 9 and 10 and it also violates the peoples and state rights under the 9th and 10th amendments to the constitution. Commerce carries the primary meaning of traffic, of transporting goods across state lines for sale this has been held by SCOTUS already. I also told them that I wasn't an attorney but would be one of the first to file suit.
Comment regarding Nancy Pelosi “…she said abortions were cheaper than supporting the kids or some such words!” *********************************** Nancy Pelosi didn’t say anything that even resembles “such words”. The conversation was about Medicaid-funded contraceptives. The date was January 26, 2009. Nancy Pelosi defended the funding of Medicaid-funded CONTRACEPTIVES during an interview on “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.” The conversation went as follows… “STEPHANOPOULOS: Hundreds of millions of dollars to expand family planning services. How is that stimulus? PELOSI: Well, the family planning services reduce cost. They reduce cost. The states are in terrible fiscal budget crises now and part of what we do for children's health, education and some of those elements are to help the states meet their financial needs. One of those - one of the initiatives you mentioned, the contraception, will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government.”
These boards allow a very limited number of characters. I just wanted to add that, if you think about it, where can you exercise as much personal discipline as in this area? You really have total control. Don't rationalize that away. It's my mom's fault, it's government, I'm just naturally fat(does happen but some is your choice not to fight it). I'm not going to use the "we're all gonna die" madness: hell, I'm going to fight it. I wanna be here long as I can and do as much as I can.
Regardless of one's politics this was a good topic for discussion. Separating it from one's inclination to inject politics is best as few things are more central to the lives we live. Obesity is such a problem that many people will be awarded disability for it. It debilitates us and shortens lives. It isn't always one's fault but in too many cases it's a reflection of a slovenly life style. In the Vietnam war I did not want an overweight soldier as my partner: it exposes me to more risk.
I want to see Nancy Pelosi tell the gangs in LA they have to buy health insurance and when they refuse, I think she should be the one that goes and collects the fine. Go shove it down their throats Nancy like you're trying to do to us. I get so very tired of Nancy and Obama always saying that the people that disagree don't count. I thought Obama was elected president of all the people. I hope we clean house in 2010 and get rid of the wicked witch of the west.
Unfortunately I think most large employers REALLY want to be able to dump their medical insurance costs onto the government and they've been quietly supporting Obama and the Democrat Party to make that happen. This is probably also the force pushing ''comprehensive'' immigration reform that large majorities don't want either.
Lee--are you on Synthroid?? (sp?) If so, look into the possibility of going on the "natural" pill rather than the synthetic. There are books out there about it written by doctors. It won't be easy to find a doctor willing to put you on it, but from personal knowledge I can tell you that once they can get the dosage right not only will your weight be more controllable, but the 'highs and lows' you might be experiencing will probably go away. Made many lives 100% better.
I have seen more skinny people get sick & die quickly.. they have nothing to fight with---people who have a little fat on them do much better, I am sick & tired of them complaining about overweight people---grossly obese is wrong also but not moderately overweight
The government has no business creating such stigmas. It causes very real harm to very real people. ... in this case people who already have a hard enough time as it is. It reminds me of the nazis wanting to create a perfect race.
For Nancy's sake, I hope botox is covered. You now have San Francisco/Chicago politicians running the country. I hope all you Obama democrat voters, and especially the brain dead swing voters, choke on it.
Discrimination in our Nation is now limited to taxpayers. So yes, if you're fat, and a taxpayer, you're discriminated against by our government. No one else has their hard earned money stolen from them by their own politicians. Our reps in Washington and California should be walked to a post, blindfolded and s... as traitors.
I was slender all my life until I was diagnosed with Graves disease; had my thyroid nuked with a radioactive iodine pill and have gained 50 pounds. I eat a well balanced diet, mostly vegetables. I am sympathetic with people with metabolic disorders, because I no longer have a metabolism. A great number of weight disorders are probably thyroid related and undiagnosed.
Yes Greta, I think obesity is a big problem in this country when it comes to health care. Adults have the right to make their own decisions about their weight and the consequences of it, but parents (no matter their own personal habits) have a responsibility to see that their children not only eat properly, but also get plenty of physical exercise. The rule in my house was you pick whatever sport you want but you will participate in one. Not only healthy, but helps keep them out of trouble!
I don't think the government should define people's eating and excercise habits, but education on the matter wouldn't hurt. Unfortunately, many of the chronic conditions start from habits when we are young. People should make their own choices but they should be informed choices. Even when we are older their are choices we can make to improve health.
There is a direct correlation to weight loss and reversing adult onset diabetes.
You do not remember what Pelosi said a few months back? ... about reducing costs by funding abortions? ... it was a month or so before this health-care "crisis" started. ... back while they were doing the stimulus.
Well, ok, here's the deal. I'm going out to run about 5 miles as I do every other day. I will 60 years old in a month. Last year I was running 9 miles a run. Sure, not everybody can do this but all of us can do something if we make that decision to get off the couch OR in front of our computer. Clearly one has to be in good condition to run like this and I made that choice years ago. I don't want to use a cane, need frequent rest stops while walking, or have to park by a store entrance. 2 proud!
