    Media goofy?

Is the media sometimes goofy?  See below..

If the media generally agrees politically with a particular newsmaker and then when journalists speak to that newsmaker it is noble and "working a source."  (Good examples are those who currently have a very cozy relationship with the White House -- that is "good journalism" in the eyes of many and escapes criticism.)

If on the other hand the media does not agree politically with a particular newsmaker/source, when a journalist works that newsmaker / source (just like above) it is somehow sinister or not so good journalism????

    What do you think?

COMMONCENTS

Unfortunately, we live in a time when the major "news" organizations are stretching the First Ammendment to its' limits. They have become so powerful standing behind the "Freedom of Speech" argument that they feel they not only have the right to report news, but to MAKE news, as well-or maybe even worse-decide what IS news and what ISN'T. They claim that the public has a "right to know", but they don't practice what they preach! Not always fair and balanced. Truth doesn't claim a politcal party.

I have sent 40 to 50 e-mails to each of my Virginia Senators (Warner and Webb). All I get in return is the same answer that over hundred thousand Virginians have contacted their offices and our concerns will be considered. Not once have I received a real response to show they even care what I am saying. The form letters are always the Democrat party line of a crisis now that must be solved immediately. Given that they are all lawyers who should have time to read any of these bills

Fox News is more fair and balanced than most news organizations. Does the children's show Sesame Street get money from National Endowment for the Arts or just public funds. After watching the blurb about FOX, it made me wonder.

SPIN, TWIST and LIE

Comment regarding Nancy Pelosi “…she said abortions were cheaper than supporting the kids or some such words!” *********************************** Nancy Pelosi didn’t say anything that even resembles “such words”. The conversation was about Medicaid-funded contraceptives. The date was January 26, 2009. Nancy Pelosi defended the funding of Medicaid-funded CONTRACEPTIVES during an interview on “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.” The conversation went as follows… “STEPHANOPOULOS: Hundreds of millions of dollars to expand family planning services. How is that stimulus? PELOSI: Well, the family planning services reduce cost. They reduce cost. The states are in terrible fiscal budget crises now and part of what we do for children's health, education and some of those elements are to help the states meet their financial needs. One of those - one of the initiatives you mentioned, the contraception, will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government.”

Greta, you are living in a time of controlled journalism. Nothing else needs to be said, that should explain everything.

I've never known "the media" (ALL journalists, reporters, commentators, political satirists/enteratiners,) to EVER completely agree/disagree with any living/dead person. Journalists practice good journalism when they leave out their own personal views and report facts only. A journalist is "sinister" when he/she reports personal opinion as fact. A satirist/entertainer is sinister when he/she purports to be a reporter. Isn't this the stuff of Journalism 101 class?

Oh, and another thing. In the aftermath of 9-11, numerous experts in the field of islamic terrorism, stated that the radicals fully intended to use America's freedoms to take down the US. Are we going to continue to be idiots and allow this to happen?

I read an article on a UK website last year, which stated that a high number of muslims in the UK were so offended by Western culture, that they flatly refused to assimilate into British society. This included not seeking employment, which has led to many muslims in the UK, living on the public dole. Excuse me, but the dictionary refers to these type people as bums. Why live in and bum off a country, if you genuinely detest that country? I am so ****** with all this BS.

I don't beleive there's a person, living or dead, with whom the "media" (all reporters, commentators, journalists, current event entertainers, political satirists) have completely agreed/disagreed. Ever. A journalist/reporter with integrity is one that never reveals personal political beliefs; she/he only reports facts. Otherwise, the reporter is not providing good journalism and is a commmentator/entertainer. The "sinister" part is only when opinion is reported to be fact

fox is reporting on the news some like Geraldo just can not help but get a tingle up his leg like he did last night. There is no real reporting anymore too many people in this nation just sees it like a game on side wins one side loses but in the end of this mess we will not be a nation that is free. Fox or anyone is not telling the whole story.

Hi Greta, News is news and the reporters who report the news have for all intent and purposes have to live by the ratings. The proof is in the pudding and your ratings are at the top, therefore you will always be the target of those who are only second best. I watch fox, msnbc, cnn and local news only to look at the current events which are of interest to me. I watch your show for 2 reasons one, I like your style and two you are a very intelligent human being. You are beautiful too.

Never thought I'd say, I miss GWB!!

Former President George W. Bush and his wife Laura secretly visited Fort Hood last night and spent "considerable time" consoling those who were wounded in Thursday's shooting spree, Fox News has learned. The Bushes entered and departed the sprawling military facility in secret, having told the base commander they did not want press coverage of their visit, a source told Fox News. The couple was described as "deeply concerned" about military families on Fort Hood after Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan allegedly opened fire on soldiers and civilians, killing 13 and wounding 38. The Bushes, who have a 1,600-acre property known as Prairie Chapel Ranch less than 30 miles from Fort Hood in central Texas, spent between one and two hours visiting the wounded and their families.

Repub - You have every right to watch whichever media outlet you choose. If you do not like the reporting done on Fox, you can change the channel and watch MSNBC or CNN. This country needs a balance of opposing views, otherwise we will be living in a third world country where what is reported will be all propaganda from the leaders. A journalists job is to question and dig for facts. If there is corruption in Acorn, SEUI, etc., don't you want to know that?

November 8, 2009 at 11:49 am

I don't know why people can't be honest here. Fox News Channel is biased. There is no argument. Other news channels are biased in the other direction. This is also irrefutable. People treat FNC as some beacon of "true journalism." It's not. Neither is MSNBC. Greta, I don't understand your post. Are we supposed to pat your network on the back for unwavering criticism of this White House when for eight years it turned a blind eye to Bush's every indiscretion? Bias in any direction is "goofy."
