I have been closely following the political crisis in Honduras - even to the extent of going to Honduras and interviewing the Interim Leader Micheletti and talking to other people who live there.
I so wanted to think (believe) that the US handled and was handling this one well and right. From the beginning I have had my doubts ...but tried really hard to have faith in our government's handling of the political crisis. Yes, this is a small country, but it is a neighbor and an ally. It is also in a very strategic location for us.
At the very outset, and with little fact finding (none?) as to what the United States should be doing and who our country should support and to what extent, our government punished the people of Honduras by cutting off millions of dollar in aid. The cut off of aid was also used as a means to force a solution -- a solution not well thought through or investigated. (This point proven by its failure.)
And worse? We have now hurt (destroyed?) their main form of income: tourism. We killed their tourism trade with our government's comments about their country.
From the beginning we have been clumsy at best in dealing with this crisis. Our efforts to broker a solution have now failed (see below). It may not be a big deal to some here in USA but it is to the people who live there. I know....I went there and saw with my own eyes.
If we are going to stick our collective noses in other peoples' business, we ought at least to do it well.
Read below...and yes, now I think it safe to say we have bungled this one:

We are having elections in 20 days, that right is all we are defending. Chavez wanted to take our freedom and liberty away, for 4 months Obama and Hillary sided with him and rest of socialist in LatinAmerica, now the WH is trying to do things right and hopefully they will recognize our new elected government. This would not have been posible with out your help.
It is time to stop saying the Administration erred in this, screwed up that. Try the approach that everything is being done right -- in the context of their view. Chumming around with CHavez, listening to Ortega, not respecting the fall of Communism, appointing all manner of Marxists misfits to his executive circle. These are not accidents or incompetence.
WE HAVE A QUIET MARXIST REVOLUTION UNDERWAY. IT WILL BE COMPLETE BY SPRING. WE WILL HAVE TO RISE UP IN A WAY NEVER CONTEMPLATED BEFORE.
Anyone who does not know that obama is a maxist, socialist, muslim, dictator by now is totally brain dead which the democrats have an abundance of totally brain dead folks. The only other kind of democrat are the monster in charge right now.Why monsters? The health bill will commit MURDER OF SENIORS, DISABLED and anyone who get seriously ill or injured. How do I know PHONE MEDICAL CARE diagnosing with out a blood test or any other diagnostic equipment you will die from that "medical care".

What is truly troubling about this issue is that the State Department backpedaled over and over again about the direction that they should take. However, it appears that the US wanted the coup to succeed because CEPR stated that over $190 million of MCC aid was never cut off and bank accounts were never frozen. Clinton was under intense pressure because the US law requires the termination of aid to countries where a military coup has taken place,but that never fully happened!

Israel-Palestine, wall street, auto, unions, local and state government, healthcare. But let's not say "we". I didn't vote for/or to empower this Adminstration or Congress to run around doing these things. As usual, this is a topic that should be on every news station and US citizens should know how other Countries are being strong armed into submission or destruction. The world is finding out that being an ally to the US is no longer a plus. This just adds to the list of Countries that have been thrown under the bus since Obama has taken office. I think the world is just waiting for the US to implode all by ourselves. UBL just has to sit and wait.
What I can't understand is how much power was given to Hugo Llorens......and he strutting his stuff over there and the Hondurans did NOT like it. Did Hillary advise him? Very puzzling.
