Since I travel so much, I bought the new KINDLE that allows downloading overseas. I have been having trouble with the text to speech function -- it shuts down by itself after a period of time (hour?) and I get an error message when I try to re-start it telling me I have to restart the device if I want to restart the text to speech function.
Is the way the new international one is designed or is there a defect in my new device?
GRETA....WHY IS ALWAYS ABOUT YOU???? HAVE YOU LOOKED AROUND IN THE USA AND NOTICED THE HEALTH CARE BILL BEING PUSHED DOWN THE THROATS OF HARD WORKING AMERICANS WHILE THEY ARE SCREAMING DON'T DO IT..?????????
Greta, I have had my Kindle DX for about 5 mons. and have not had an issue with the reader/speaker--with the exception it was not pleasant ( the digital voice) and took some getting use to. You probably need to call the customer service line @ Amazon.
You didn't drop it did you? lol. Also. if you bought the leather case for your kindle get rid of it. It can damage your reader.
You have successfully got me yearning for a Kindle. Reason: visions of walking in my home seeing table tops instead of piles of reading material:) I'm trying to decide if I should buy the biggest one-- pricey for retired folks like me, or if I would be satisfied with a smaller one. I've noticed some of the conservatives mags and papers are not on Kindle-GET WITH IT FOLKS! What happens if you run out of storage? Why doesn't Amazon sell Kindle software for wireless laptops doing the same thing

It bothers me that you're stuck buying books from Amazon who at anytime can jack up the prices and you're screwed. I'm looking at the Sony eReader.
