Greta-I can hardly wait for your interview with Bush 41. My sister was stationed in Germany in the 70ts and really enjoyed her tour of duty there. Both my sister and I are married to retired military men and both of us have 4 kids who were raised in the military. My sister sent me a Hummel figurine every Christmas from The Hummel factory there in Germany. I have a large collection Of Hummels.
I see the real Republican in NY23 has suspended her campaign and effectively dropped out of the race. This is very troubling. It is yet another nail in the coffin, turning the Republican party into a regional, Southern party, making it Whig-like. Those ideologues who think they have accomplished something have. You're relegated the Republican party to "has been", "also ran" status. Very troubling for our democracy. /s/ Brick
Looks so much different from when I was there. I can't believe that the wall has been down for 20 years. I remember watching people come across the border on TV. Shortly thereafter East Germans came to the West and started buying cars like crazy. Then there was the solodarity tax which we all had to pay and was suppose to be for only one year. I just heard that people still have to pay that same tax.

We Need Intelligent Guests Who Can Share Their Wisdom
As for the woeful ignorance of many posters, we need new guests on OTR. Bolton, Gingrich, Kissinger, Morris and Rove have obviously failed in their efforts. Bolton is too ideological, Kissinger is too disengaged and the others are lacking in intelligence. I think a series of guests, perhaps academicians from the great universities of our nation. Academicians who have never been on FOX. Dr. Karl Galinsky, Classicist at UT Austin and Max Planck Award winner would be a great start. /S/ Brick
We face three (3) problems with this blog: (1) the unpleasantness, anger and bitterness of many posters; (2) the ignorance of many posters; (3) the neglect of the the owner/sponsor. As a remedy for the unpleasantness, anger and bitterness of many of the posters, I think Greta should link to a Gene Kelly singing, dancing or acting clip at least once each day. He wasn't the world's greatness singer, dancer or actor, but he was good and he was just so darn happy, how can you not be? /s/ Brick
I would have never even thought about a picture of the Berliner Tor from that perspective. Somehow, all of the grandeur, and of the history is missing. Very odd. And, out of focus. /s Brick
How wonderful that this wall is gone. I remember when it came down thinking about the previous reports through the years of people being shot trying to get over it. Sad for many, many years with families separated and a world separated.
