Beer when you wake up? instead of coffee?

We are now in Doha and what a switch it is from Islamabad !  The Islamabad airport in the middle of the night may be the worst flying experience ever....lines....chaos...multiple searches that seem anything but orderly or thorough....in short, rough.  And Doha? it feels like a spa!  We have great coffee and comfortable chairs to sit in for the 3 hours until our next flight (to Berlin.)

As soon as I got on the flight in Islamabad the flight attendant asked if I wanted anything to drink after take off. I asked for a beer (the wine is not the greatest on airlines....and I wanted something that might help me sleep on the plane since we have not slept in days.)  As soon as the flight took off, I fell asleep and slept for 3 hours of the 4 hour flight...but was peculiar is that the flight attendant came up to me after she saw that I was awakened and asked me if I wanted a beer.  I was so tired that I had forgotten I asked for one and I thought, "who would want a beer at 6am in the morning after sleeping...coffee, yes, but beer?  Beer first thing in the morning? That is the last thing I want when I wake up." I mentioned it to one of my traveling companions about how weird I thought the offer of beer was that I got offered beer and she told me that I had asked for it before I fell asleep....I then remembered.  Yes, we are a bit exhausted.

If you wonder why I have not put more short videos up (green oval) it is not because I have not tried.  I tried many, many, many times while in Pakistan since I want to bring you on this trip with us.  I just got a message from AT&T that my data something is being used so much overseas that it has been shut down.  So...yes, next time I go over seas I will think of that ahead of time.

I am looking forward to landing in Germany -- in about 8 hours.  I will blog when we get there.

I knew you were going to enjoy Germany much more than P. They are free in Germany and do not have security problems. You will probably feel really safe once you land on American soil. I remember that feeling where we returned to the USA after a tour of duty in Panama. We were gone 5 years and I missed home every day after the first year. I know I really will never lose my love for my country. One never knows what you are missing until you do not have it.

I'm glad your flight was so nice. One of the best flights I took included lots of beverages, food, and toilets. The plane was older and did not have a tv for every seat. It did have wonderful attendants, lots of beverages, two tood snacks, a great dinner, and lots of things snacks in the galley between meals. Lots of friendly people too. My seat mate took three beers and the first was in the morning too. Enjoy the coffee!

Greta, one thing about it when you come home I bet you will really really really appreciate our freedom and the safety we have here in the US. I always felt bad for the Israeli people, having to live under the bombing conditions. I could see it in your face when you had your report on tv tonight. Stay safe!

We have a thread on drinking wine and all sort of other exoctic things. Glad you could sleep for a few hours. I hate flying and all those long flights are hard on you. When you get to Germany don't forget "eine kaffee bitte"! Also, Danke is thanks.

The most interesting part of this is that at&t cut off your data. You'd think they'd be smart enough to know you are a premium user and wouldn't do that. I travel abroad a lot and I'll have to think twice about using at&t international data plan. From the beer side, in Austin, I think the bulk of the population here has beer first thing in the morning on Longhorn Football game days.

If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter. - George Washington If we desire to avoid insult, we must be able to repel it; if we desire to secure peace, one of the most powerful instruments of our rising prosperity, it must be known, that we are at all times ready for War.- George Washington
