I need computer / tech advice

I own a Kindle.  I would like to do some research for work, and then e mail it to the Kindle (Kindle has the wireless email).  The problem is that the file must be in PDF.  So here is the question (and I confess, I worry this one is really stupid): if you find an article on the internet (web or online newspaper), can you convert it to a PDF file? and how do I do this?

If you are using a Apple computer, then you select something that you would like to print. Select print options a drop down box will ask if you would like to save it as a PDF file. That simple.

I have Adobe8 Standard and it allows me to print anything I am viewing into a PDF. It shows up as an available printer when I go to (file, print). There must be a computer in your office that has that capability. I hope you make progress on this. Thanks for your work, by the way.

If you don't have the Adobe software (not cheap), you can do a search for free pdf conversion and take it from there. How about taking a basic computer class?

Primo PDF (primopdf.com) has a shareware (free) recommended. It works OK for converting html web pages to PDF.

First, you have to understand what files the Kindle will recognize. While PDF is not one of them, it does recognize PRC files. There are programs out there such as Mobipocket Creator for the PC and Stanza for the Mac that will allow you to convert PDFs into PRC files that the Kindle can recognize. Whichever you have to use, the process is essentially the same and you will still end up with the same file type. For the PC, the full version of Mobipocket Creator makes the conversion fairly straightforward. Simply open the program and go to the import file option. Select your PDF that you wish to convert for use on your Kindle. Select the HTML file it creates and click the build option. It may take some time depending on the size of the PDF, but it will eventually give you the file format you need. You can ignore any errors that pop up along the conversion process. While the file will not be perfect, it lacks a table of contents for instance, you will still be able to view a legible version of it on your Kindle. The process is even simpler in Stanza. You simply pick the file, then choose export book as option. Amazon Kindle is one of the options listed.

You can, but you would need a special program to do it. Instead of Adobe Acrobat reader which is free, you need to buy the standard or professional version of Adobe Acrobat. There may be free convertion programs out there - I would do a google search for it, i.e., "free program to convert word to PDF"

There are PDF print drivers. You just print the document to the PDF printer and it produces the PDF file. You can buy that direct from Adobe or look for other suppliers.

You can get PDF converter software....but I am not sure how it would interface with the Kindle.....it easy convert PDF to excel, or word etc...the other way around is a different issue.

Purchase the Adobe software that allows you to create a PDF file. It adds a PDF writer printer selection. You print to it. It then prompts you for a file name and you then save the PDF file that was created.
