I can't decide if we should remain patient... or if we are being stupid. I fear the latter -- being stupid in not changing course in our economic policy. My fear stems from the unemployment numbers (admittedly a lag indicator) and the words of the President's chief economic adviser.
I want our economic policy to work. People need jobs -- in many sectors of our population, unemployment is higher than 15 % for people who want and need jobs. The overall number is just shy of 10% but that grossly underestimates the real number - the 10 % number does not include the utterly hopeless who have given up looking for jobs or those who have had to settle for part time work.
In January and February I had doubts about the giant stimulus package and whether it was the right way to go...but once it was passed, even though I thought much of it unwise, I wanted it to work. I wanted to be wrong in thinking that there was a more efficient way to turn our economy around without the attendant risks to large spending.
Yesterday President Obama's chairwoman of the White House Council on Economic Advisers at a hearing said "[u]nemployment is likely to remain at its severely elevated level" through the end of next year." [from NYTimes]
"Severely elevated level" and "through then end of next year??? Is she warning us to regroup?
What should we do? Should we wait longer? (be patient) Can we afford to wait? Is waiting selfish since so many people are hurting or do we need to wait to let the stimulus bill attempt to do more? have we not given it enough time or should we change our economic policy now? How long should we wait? what are the good signs to indicate we are on the right path?
We have not spent the entire stimulus package money so changing course is not out of the question. If the wrong decision was made in February, we need to have the courage to change. It is not a question of ego -- but of doing the right thing.
If there are not sufficiently good signs, we need to change course - now.
Obama's power is in his numbers - the number of liberals he has in the House and Senate. In 2010 those numbers will change dramatically, no doubt. The Obamacrats know it, too. That's why they're scurrying do all their damage ASAP, because after the elections of 2010, they won't have the power pass gas. Problem is, how much damage can they do between now and the elections? Let's hope we don't get saddled with something that can't be reversed! This administration's arrogance is unbelievable!

3. Cut the tax’s the same about and get rid of the 38,000 page tax codes and no writ offs
4. Cut spending by cutting the government Institution by half and move some back to the privet sector so they could do the most good. Such as the CDC and the HHS because under the current government controls the health care is too regulated and can never do the job needed to keep most Americans healthy.
5. Cut the regulation out and allow them to make money to expand and create their job for their own needs.
We must do this and fix these rules for 10 years and we would need the full support of the people. To get this the congress to put this on a website and let the people vote on this it is possible to do so without repeating vote such as the survey pages they never lit you log in twice because know the last 4 digit or you IP and the last page gets time –out this would stop the fraud. Next total up these votes and read most of the comets and then decide what to do is what the people want. One more word for word follows the constitution for this is the only way to fix the republic democracy.

I read that corruption in government is around 95%. Don't know how the author quantified that...I suppose counting from the smallest trangressions to the great big out and out corruption. The answer begins with term limits in Congress...the less entrenched politicians are the less time they have to "dig in".
