First, these uniforms and umbrellas are new -- they did not have them 14 months ago. It is quite noticeable since it is almost every major intersection so we would have noticed.
Second, I did not see any guys doing this job (but my FNC colleague Hollywood said he did, but not many.)
Third, I was told that the traffic directors (or whatever their jobs are called) are all spruced up because General Kim Jong Il ordered it. There is some effort going on to spruce up the country getting ready for 2012 -- the 100th anniversary of the birth of President Kim Il Sung.
Why does this have any importance to us? because last year the job seemed extremely dangerous (not to mention the heat from the sun) and so we were intrigued by it last year.
