I learned the phrase "stuck on stupid" from my good friend Ted Williams and it so applies to some people who have emailed me in the last 24 hours complaining about something I said on ON THE RECORD at 10pm Thursday night. Yes, I am appalled, and said it, that stimulus money is being used to finance or promote (directly or indirectly) pornography. What do the emails say complaining about me? They say that the Bush administration likewise gave grants that funded porn and thus I should not be critical of the President Obama administration for doing it, too.
Assuming that it is true that the Bush administration provided taxpayer money to support porn (I don't know either way)....is that really a reason to keep doing it? Because another administration did it? Are you kidding? that's a good reason to keep doing it? I think that is "stuck on stupid." I don't care whether it is a Dem President or a Repub President -- we should not ask the taxpayers to fund porn and the assertion another administration did it is the most absurd argument to continue to do it. The porn industry makes enough money on its own that it does not need a bailout from the taxpayers.
Incidentally keeping taxpayer money out of the porn business does not in any way impede the First Amendment.
