The Media Telephone Game (remember the telephone game?)
One news organization - which has not seen my contract so has no idea what the terms are in it - has embarked a fanciful game of guess...and, in attempting to guess, has now relied on "anonymous sources" who likewise have not seen my contract or the terms in it.
The first news organization hints that I may be leaving or replaced. It says "anonymous sources." Hhm...anonymous sources? The next news organization ? It reads the first report from the first news organizatin and adds to it a bit...and passes it on (publishes or posts)....and then the next news organization reading it? It likewise adds to it...and passes it on (publishes or posts)....and then next? well you know that answer...it goes viral and some people reading it may mistakenly think what started out as guess (from anonymous sources) and is wrong (no facts) is now "fact."
How does this happen? Why does the media do this? There are all sorts of reasons why people in the media do this (bored? stupid? not thinking? wild imaginations? etc.) Facts seem to be and are a missing ingredient (and I do admit that I did not supply the facts - terms of my contract - since my contract, like all contracts I have signed in this business, require confidentiality and I do keep my word.) Yes, this is the danger of guessing, anonymous sources and the media telephone game.
But YOU all on GretaWire KNOW me...and know me well....and you know Fox...so let's have a little fun with a poll ....use your common sense.....here is vote (and I can hardly wait to see which news organization picks up this poll and this blog and makes even another story out of it!)
