UPDATE: 6:10pm -- I was just given the 2008 TOTAL VIEWER numbers (the year ends the last full week of December)....and ON THE RECORD beat the next closest cable news show at night by an average of about 500,000 / homes EACH night.
Our average is 1,786,000 and the next closest to our news show has an average of 1,324,000 homes a night.
So congrats to all of you and our 12 member staff -- that 1/2 million more each night is huge and you all worked hard to make our cable news show ON THE RECORD what it is.
---------------------------------------
FOR THE YEAR 2008 (and 7th straight year!): "ON THE RECORD" is #1 in TOTAL VIEWERS!
(and yes, no asterisks!)
Since I consider ON THE RECORD to be YOUR show since our news show is different and YOU actually participate via GretaWire, GretaLiveWire etc, you should "take a bow" because you beat out all the competition at 10pm in cablenews and you did so by a significant margin. There are no asterisks separating out categories etc-- the raw data is simply this: YOU WON! ON THE RECORD has the most viewers at 10pm for the entire year.
Towards the end of the week the actual year numbers will be released but I was told today that ON THE RECORD in the year 2008 crushed the competition in TOTAL VIEWERS despite networks trying to play around with the numbers with the special election year coverage. We also did not spend zillions on p/r -- we did it the old fashion way: we all worked together and put out a news show that made us #1...that made the viewers want to watch.
Here is the fun thing for all of us: whether you compare the numbers with network's playing around with them (cooking the books) or you look at the numbers straight and not artificially spiked by election stuff - ON THE RECORD was STILL #1 at 10pm in TOTAL VIEWERS by a sizable margin. Either way - cooked books or not - we won the year at 10pm for TOTAL VIEWERS! Congrats to you!
By the way...we have been on the air 7 years...and we have been #1 in TOTAL VIEWERS for all 7 years!
